Department of Physics Undergraduate Summer Research Program

The Ohio State University Department of Physics is pleased to announce the 2011 Undergraduate Summer Research Program. The program will feature the following scholarships:

  • The Caren Summer Research Scholarship
  • The DeMartini Summer Research Scholarship
  • The McMaster Summer Research Scholarship
  • The Neilsen Summer Research Scholarship

    These scholarships will support undergraduate students pursuing research projects with an approved faculty sponsor during the summer of 2011.

    Each scholarship will provide a wage and benefits package worth $3,000 in compensation for research work performed under the supervision of a supporting OSU Physics faculty member. $2,000 will be supplied by the Summer Scholarship and $1,000 by the supporting faculty member.

    Applicant Eligibility and Requirements:

  • Eligibility for this scholarship is limited to students currently enrolled at the Ohio State University as Undergraduate majors in Physics or Engineering Physics
  • Complete applications must include:
    1. A complete application form from the student
    2. A short abstract of the proposed project written by the student.
    3. A complete faculty endorsement form from the Physics faculty research sponsor (this is located on the last page of the student application form).
    4. A letter of support from the Physics faculty research sponsor

    Award and Requirements of Successful Applicants:

  • Program dates: 10 weeks during the summer of 2011: June 13 - August 19.
  • The scholarship will provide a wage and benefits package worth $3,000 in compensation for research work performed under the supervision of a supporting OSU Physics faculty member. $2,000 will be supplied by the Grilly Scholarship. $1,000 by the supporting faculty member.
  • All applicants must submit a short paper documenting the major results of their project at the end of the program. Students are asked to present a poster of their results in the Summer Undergraduate Research Institute 2011 Fall Forum.
