Satisfying the Math requirements for a Physics Degree

There are four alternative routes through the mathematics sequences for physics and engineering physics majors, as well as physics minors.
  1. Standard:
  2. Accelerated: The standard introductory calculus sequence is compressed from 4 quarters into 3 quarters
  3. Honors Accelerated: If a student takes Math H520, the student should complete the sequence with Math H521
  4. Honors Advanced: If a student takes Math H520, the student should complete the sequence with Math H521.

    Physics and engineering physics majors, especially those planning graduate work in physics, are strongly encouraged to take the highest-level math sequence for which they are qualified and with which they feel comfortable. In particular, it is advantageous to take the 161 series if possible, so as to be able to comfortably start with Physics 131 in the first quarter of enrollment. Additional math courses are recommended as electives. Suggested elective courses are:
