Strong field Quantitative Rescattering Theory
-- Self-imaging of molecules by their own electrons

Chii-Dong Lin, Kansas State University

Abstract: We have developed a quantitative rescattering theory (QRS) where we showed that high-energy above-threshold-ionization (HATI) electrons generated by an intense infrared laser pulse can be used to extract the elastic scattering differential cross sections (DCS) between FREE electrons with the target ion, and that the complex amplitude of high-order harmonics generated (HHG) by the laser pulse can be used to extract dipole photoionization amplitudes from fixed-in-space molecules. These extracted DCS and transition dipoles are independent of lasers and can be used to retrieve the structural change of molecules with temporal resolution of a few femtoseconds.
